Hsuan's away

Plus progress on work.

Hsuan's away today. That means I brought William to Tae Kwon Do class. In the photo below, Master P. is putting him front and center, as an example to all the other kids. He does this often with William. He has his next promotion test later this month.

Afterward, we picked up James, and then we had a very long commute home. Dinner was a chicken quesadilla from Taco Bell, split between the boys. I had a burrito supreme and a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza (pepperoni).

James' new antibiotic (which we got after amoxicillin didn't clear up his ear infection) seems to be a very broad-spectrum antibiotic which has killed off all the bacteria in his digestive tract. The noticeable side effects are that (a) his poop is now completely odorless, black, dry, and hard, and (b) he is probably constipated.

I still haven't gotten perfect agreement between my ground software and the STEREO LET onboard software results, but by now, I think my regular floating point results are good enough that I moved on to remapping some onboard matrices for which I'm responsible. The first step was to adapt a charge-estimation routine from another experiment to work with the LET data, a very simple implementation. The only remaining problem with this particular code is that the range-energy relationship I use may not be the best, but it's pretty standard around our lab.

The next step was to implement routines to plot up charge histograms, color coded to where the particles land on the response matrices. Surprisingly, that code came out rather quickly, too, which means I got a significant amount accomplished today before leaving to bring William to his Tae Kwon Do class.
